The Journey of Milo and Haymishe Cookies
We kicked off workshop 6 a small check in of everyone's past
2 weeks, then went straight into a quick ice breaker. We a split into small groups, each group was assigned a 'leader' and given supplies. Then we
were told to "play the game". The only problem was that nobody knew "the game". During the 5 minutes of the "the game" there was lots of laughter as everybody scrambled to play their
version of this so called game.
Whilst this "game" was highly
enjoyable, in the discussion after we reflected it is important to know where you want to go in order to achieve a goal.
We
were assigned tables/groups where our incredible madrichim put together a slideshow outlining important information that is vital to running a any project, but more specifically for us, running a Shabbaton. This is a tool that Diller calls the Journey of Milk and Cookies (but for us Aussies in the Journey of Milo and Haymishe Cookies). The tools in the model will be useful in later life, such as creating mission and vision statements in a business
sense as well providing us with inspirational quotes for an added bonus.
After
each concept, we were given the opportunity to try to figure out what the mission and vision statements are of large companies (such as Google and Facebook). This was highly amusing as
everyone had a general idea as to what the company did/provided but couldn't
pinpoint one particular goal.
After learning about the fundamentals of how to run a Shabbaton
and the key knowledge, our hunger was quenched with delicious falafel, pita,
dips and hot chips. Whilst we were eating, we had the opportunity to
talk to the coordinator of Diller in the Golan, Liat. We spoke to her about the
group and asked her questions like how
they are and what they have been doing, everyone is so excited to meet our Israeli counterparts and
we cannot wait until they come.
After the wonderful meal, we began the serious discussion of
running the self management Shabbaton. We decided on what the main theme of the Shabbaton which will guide us in creating the programs. The theme we decided on was, "diversity of Judaism and how Judaism impacts our identity". We also decided
that Gabe Jenshel and Mia Burman will be the 2 people overseeing the running of
the shabbaton, so congratulations to them and we look forward to seeing all
that they will accomplish.
Finally, we ended off the meeting with a very sad goodbye to
Bryce and we hope he has an amazing time living in Israel and can't wait to see
him there in the middle of the year.
