Self Management Here We Come

The workshop on Sunday was one filled with fun and excitement for the upcoming JCM. We began the workshop with a quick discussion, which addressed all our concerns, questions and excitement for when our partners from the Golan will be here in just over a week!

Next we had a short peer lead activity where we had a discussion about the complex realities in Israel and the decisions Israel makes. We focused on an article about people Non-Jews seeking refuge in Israel, which lead to a great discussion.

The main topic of the workshop was planning for our self-management Shabbaton coming up in May. We had to each go up, pop a balloon and inside the balloon was a question relating to our Shabbaton theme of “Jewish Continuity.”  After the balloon was popped, each fellow had to provide an answer to the rest of the group before they could collect their book containing all the information about the Shabbaton. It was extremely fascinating to hear everyone’s responses to the controversial questions
and see the differences in opinions.

Next we had to decide on Roshim for the Shabbaton. These Roshim would be in charge for planning nearly all the aspects- from busses, to meals, to the timetabling of the activities, they will have to ensure the Shabbaton will run as smoothly and be as fun as possible. We nominated the Roshim and they had their first task of deciding how the Tzvatim (teams) will be decided. They made a plan which worked well and ensured the tzvatim were random and balanced.

Overall, the workshop was full of excitement and great discussions about what is still to come. We are all looking forward to the JCM next week and the self-management Shabbaton, which is to follow that.

It was a very fun and fulfilling workshop.

TUESDAY: Good morning Diller parents! Our fellows arrived for  Congress yesterday afternoon and have had a very busy past 36 hours. After arriving at our accommodation in kibbutz Manara (photo of the beautiful view attached), and meeting the other partnership communities located at Manara the fellows attended the opening ceremony for Congress. This was a beautiful evening with food stalls and mingling of all 700 fellows, as well as presentations from Diller, including from Helen Diller's daughter. It was a lovely, but very hot, evening, with beautiful photos to come as Diller had drone photography the event. This morning the fellows went to Tel Hai University campus where the main seminar is located. Throughout the day they explored their origins, noting the major differences between Australians and American heritage, and explored their connection to Israel and Judaism. Meeting the world

On Friday the 8 th of July I was leader of the day. During which, our group woke up in the Bedouin tent accompanied by our security guard Ron. We indulged in a quick breakfast made especially for us by the Bedouins and at 7:30 in the morning we headed to the Dead Sea. It was a scorching hot day, however our abundance of sunscreen and consumption of water enabled us to resist the weather and positively progress throughout the day. By 9am we had all entered the Dead Sea floating about. After a good 45 minutes in the water we headed to a café near by and overpaid for ice-cream and ice coffee. Following some ice creamy action we hoped on the bus and headed to Ramat Rachel hotel in Jerusalem for Kennes. As soon as we disembarked from the bus we were treated like celebrities. “SORRY, are you from Australia?”, one Toronto girl screamed. “I actually love your accent,” another. Israel Isreallly Fun: CONGRESS

Since arriving at Congress it has been a very busy past 2 days for the fellows.  Following a free Shabbat, where teens experienced life throughout the Golan, on  Sunday the fellows arrived at Congress after a leisurely drive to Tel Hai, especially in comparison to Cohorts such as Eilat which left at 3.30am. After  arriving at our accommodation in kibbutz Manara (photo of the beautiful view attached), and meeting the other partnership communities located at Manara, the fellows attended the Opening Ceremony for Congress.  This was a beautiful evening with food stalls and an opportunity to start mingling with some of the 700 fellows. As well as an evening filled with videos, dances and lots of fun, the fellows were privileged to hear from Helen Diller's daughter, Jacqui Safier.
