Successfully Self-Managed

27-29 May, the fellows ran their Self-Management Shabbaton. The group began the process of planning the Shabbaton at the in March with the selection of a  theme and creating a mission and vision for the Shabbaton. The only instructions they were given was that the theme must cover two of the four Diller Pillars. The group selected the theme of "Issues facing the future of the Jewish people". We then elected Roshim (coordinators) and created tzavtim (teams). Sasha and Jessy were elected as the Roshim, and arranged the group in tzvatim that would each be in responsible for a meal, a prayer service and running an educational program for the group during the Shabbaton.

The tzvatim had to meet deadline and had to find time to plan outside of Diller workshop times. - Amy

It was incredible to see the Fellows in action over the Shabbaton. They put their own spin on traditional Diller activities, including a "white catwalk parade" (their own spin on the pre Shabbat 'White Parade' and interactive Tfila services. Over the Shabbaton the group discussed and argued about the issues facing Judaism today, demonstrating that this is indeed a committed group of leaders who care about their community.

But moreover, this was an opportunity to test skills and learn from the opportunity of running a Shabbaton.

Kol HaKavod!

Here are some reflections from the Fellows

"Running the the Diller Self Management Shabbaton was an incredible experience which taught me many skills which I would not have learnt otherwise. I loved being the Rosh (coordinator of the Shabbaton) as I felt my ideas and opinions were valued and respected. Overall, this Shabbat was very special and really challenged and pushed me to grow as a leader."
-Sasha

"I thought that this Shabbaton was one of the best we have had yet, as the overall topic of the Shabbaton was very interesting. The Roshim were very organised and had good input, which helped my group and I plan all our tasks effectively. Although my group and I did not agree on everything, there was a good outcome and I enjoyed seeing our program come to life and the dicussion that was created."
-Maya

"Running aspects of the Shabbaton was a really eye-opening experience because it made
me really understand how difficult it can be to plan the program and the time it takes to do so well. Running the programs provided me with insight into the challenges that occur and how to best deal with them, as well as how to make the program the best it can be. The more programs I ran, the more confident I became in my abilities and how to control the group best and make my activities successful and worthwhile."
- Zara

"I loved that we got to choose what we wanted to do. We catered our program so that everyone in the group would like and enjoy it. It has given me a lot more confidence for the future when it comes to making a program"
- Amy

"The process of being one of the Roshim for the Self Management Shabbaton was an incredible experience. Working in collaboration with Sasha (the other rosh) and the rest of the fellows was a great learning experience that helped me improve my organisation, time keeping and communication skills. Knowing that it was completely in our hands to organise catering, transportation and to help coordinate all of the programs for that weekend was a lot of pressure. In the end it all payed off with an incredible Shabaton filled with heated conversations, engaging programs and non-stop entertainment. Thank you for the opportunity to help make the weekend a memorable one. Keep on cooking your crumble
