Learning to Lead

The last Diller Teen workshop was one that changed the way we perceive those around us. We delved into the qualities and attributes of a 'good' leader and what separated them from those of a role model, sparking debate whether 'good' constitutes ethically correct or strong and successful.  We then studied and addressed the quotes and achievements of well known leaders throughout the global community, ethically good and bad, and applied them to our own lives. This allowed us to gain an insight into the blurred line between leaders and role models and which are more influential throughout our lives.  It was interesting to then apply this knowledge to the Jewish leaders in the Torah. Having to re-examine these influential leaders and our preconceived ideas of the crucial values one needs to lead, we were able to address the core concept of what it means to be a 'good' leader.  At the beginning of the meeting we had been asked to define a 'leader

Shabbat Shalom

Diller 1 st  Shabbaton The 1 st  ever Melbourne cohort of Diller Teen Fellows set out to Bacchus Marsh for their first Shabbaton as a group of unfamiliar kids, nervous and apprehensive for what was to come. We arrived at the campsite not long before Shabbat and quickly went about setting up all the necessary preparations. Not only did we learn to appreciate the views and values of others, we were also able to consolidate our own opinions. Under the incredible leadership of our madrichim, Ellie Golvan, Ash De Winter and Bryce Kenny along with some peer led activities, the fellows learnt invaluable lessons and had plenty of fun. Shabbat concluded with a beautiful

Welcome of the Diller Teen Fellows Melbourne blog. This is a space for our fellows to share their thoughts and reflections on the program. Our  first post comes from Romy:  Today was our first official Diller Teen Fellows workshop with all 19 fellows. We began the session with a game run by myself and a fellow participant to get to know the names of all the fellows. Following this, we were taught the Tuckman's group theory of forming, storming, norming and performing. Melbourne cohort 1 passed through the stage of forming our group and now we are moving on to storming, by setting goals and missions. Inspired by the movie "Inside Out" we fellows had to come up with our own 5 personality "islands" that define who we are and core memories that accompany them. After we individually brainstormed our personality islands, we created the islands and core memories through art and craft and then shared our personal memories that define us with the group. This
