Day 1
Our adventure
had begun! After a long 24 hours travelling, Melbourne Diller Cohort 1 finally
landed in Israel. We started our day bright and early with a breakfast in Ben
Gurion airport and meeting a few of the international Diller coordinators. A
few lucky fellows had surprise visits from their family currently in Israel.
We first
stopped at a Moshav in the Negev where we sang the Australian National Anthem
and Hatikvah. This was a very meaningful opening ceremony and a special way to
start off our Israel journey. As we continued down the Negev, we had our first
activity at the ‘Salad Trail’ an organisation which grows fruit and vegetables in
the desert for visitors to come learn about and eat. Not only did we learn
about Israel’s amazing technology which invents and grows cherry tomatoes in
the middle of the desert but we also got to try the delicious produce.
After a tasty
lunch at the Salad Trail we then went to Ben Gurions tomb. Here we learnt about
the story of Ben Gurion and his visions for the State of Israel. Our next stop
was at a ropes activity focused on building teamwork skills and understanding
how we work together as a group. This activity
brought us closer together and helped us learn a lot about each other.
Our final
stop was at our hotel in Mitzpe Rimon where we had a delicious Israeli dinner,
thought-provoking Maagal Layla about our first day in Israel, and had the most
incredible view of the Ramon crater.
We are all
extremely looking forward to the next three weeks in Israel and meeting the
other Diller fellows.
