Community week begins
Hey
everybody! This is your friendly neighbourhood leader speaking! After many
weeks of well coordinated planning we
were ready to go. Armed with the best community week leader of the day and his trusted deputies, we all got a bus to Mitzpe Ofir,
where we did ma'agal boker in the backdrop of the lovely Golan and Kineret.
Next we ventured down to Majdulia, where we helped dig out an ancient
Jewish village. We were told that the village dated back to the Roman era, so
we were digging out 1800 years of history. Under the sweltering heat of the Golan
sun we helped uncover an ancient Shul, an olive press and a pottery
manufacturing plant.
Afterwards we went to the oldest still standing Shul in the world, Um EL
Kanatir (Mother of the Arches). There we were shown all the features that
comprised an ancient Shul. Our visit there had to be cut short, as we were
dying in the heat.
From there we went to the ‘Magic of the Golan’, where we watched a 4-D
film that consisted of shots of the Golan that should be used in a commercial
for the Golan. After we were done with the film, we went to view an interactive
map of the Golan. From there we went to the Beit Weizmann equivalent in the
Golan where Ellie and Liat led us in a program about hosting and being a guest.
We finished the day with some Doof Doof and some birthday cake for Jordy
and Batya. Overall, the day was a success and I look forward to the rest of
community week.
